Nitrites Are At 2 Or 5 Now Quick Help Needed

WOW You have 3 filters on a 29. Maybe I do need two. Do you suggest a biowheel or no?
If you decide to get another filter, go with an aquaclear, it's almost completely silent IME, does it's job effictvely and media options are almost endless. Or, you could get another aquatech. I mantian a tank for my aunt that has one of those filters and have no problems whatsoever with it. Also, whatever a filter claims to filter up to cut that in half and that's what it should actualy be filtering. So, lets say your current filter is rated for 50g, get a second one that will handle that much.

Only when your tank is severily(with a capital s) overstocked will you need a biowheel to keep the water safe, and I really don't think (after using one myself) that it's much better than an aquaclear with all cotton batting or sponge for filter media.

Thanks so much for the info Dorkfish!!!!!!!!!

I don't remember hearing of the aquaclear, so I'm glad you let me know. I'm going to go look them up on google now. I'll definately do the sponge thing. I just learned that the hardway. Thank you again............ :hi:

I wouldn't bother testing Nitrates until after the Nitrites are at 0. I've read that most Nitrate tests concert the nitrates to Nitrates, and then measure. If you have nitrites in your water, the results will look to be through the roof.
I will tell you this, I was getting Nitrate tests through the roof! When the nitrites went down to 0, the Nitrates were less than 10ppm... and this was without a water change.

Also, the AP Nitrite test is difficult to read past 1.0... I really can't tell what it spikes at. It looks off the charts, but I doubt this since my ammonia "spiked" at about .5ppm and my fish didn't experience any problem.

I hate to keep asking this, but I will :joke:

Does anyone have any idea if I need another or a different filter for my 55 gallon tank. It's a walmart tank with an aquatech filter on it. Someone has told me that I need another one for the other side. I didn't know if maybe I just need a penguin or emporer or something else. ANy ideas guys.........

 Thanks!!!!!!!!

Here is what I have for my 40 gallon tank. a Fluval 203@110gph, a Jebo Newport b28 at close to 300+ gph, and a penguin 170 power filter.
I have that much filteration because I am getting ready for a 55 to 75g tank and want to drop a seasoned filter in it
If I was going to give advice.... Go buy a Emperor 400 Bio-Wheel.... You won't go wrong.

Thank You both for the advice!!!!!!!!! I will keep the emporer 400 in mind to. My nitrites are still at at least 2. I was going to do a water change like I have every other day, but it hasn't helped at all. I wonder if the ammonia, chlorine, chloramine REMOVER that I use could cause my nitrites to look high and they really arent. Can that happen? My sister said she's read about certain products causing that, but she can't remember what they were. I think I may just vacuum a little and leave it alone. I have a bad back and carrying all these 5 gallon buckets across the house has really aggravated it, I don't wanna overdue it. I can't wait to get a python. Do you have one? I was curious about putting the chlorine remover. Do you fill it all up and then add it? I'm afraid that would hurt the fish..........

I have the Emperior 400 on my 55 and have had no problems :D I was just looking through your thread and came upon that suggetion and figured I'd add that, I'd just tell ya when I talk to ya but you know me I'd forget

BTW I just went to that pet place and they have it on sale right now for 39.99, not sure what shipping is I just ordered a couple things and my shipping was 9.00 for a couple foods and a filter (getting ready for that 75  )
