No Air Stones or Yes.

Man I'm such a newb. I have so many questions that I hope you guys could find the patience to answer.

Ok, I know that too much agitation messes with the CO2 injection in the tanks. Now my question is...

I have Tetra Whisper 20 filters for 10G tanks. A couple I might say. Once I start injecting the CO2 through a DIY reactor, and mind you that I will be aiming for heavy planting, will I need to take out the airstone in the tank? Will the water movement of the filters aid the fish in breathing?

Or this is where all the rules of checking the parameters science come in?

I'm cluster-fused.

:thud:

When you are heavily planted, you want to aim for as little water circulation as possible. Plants will chemically convert CO2 to O2 (Oxygen) as they photosynthesize. Non planted tanks with lots of agitation and air stones typically reach an 80% oxygen saturation rate. Planted tanks sometimes become supersaturated with oxygen 120%+ if they have CO2 injection and little to no agitation (canister filter) and high light. Don't worry your fish will have more than enough oxygen to breathe without the agitation.

Thanks.

So as far as the setup I would have which is a 10G tank with the 20G filter, would that be a problem as far as losing the CO2 and photosynthesis of the plants?

It's the surface disruption that you want to minimize. Circulation is fine and desirable. You will definitely want to lose the airstone if you're injecting CO2.

I have CO2 injection and use airstones. The Airpump is on a timer and only turns on at night for 6 hours. I do this mostly to prevent surface scum from building up, but it also prevents the CO2 levels from getting dangerously high. I have 100's of plants that probably consume alot of oxygen when the lights are turned off.
