No Background?

Some tanks are just for grow out or QT...not realy display.

I've always had no backgrounds. I didn't really care, since when I look at it I focus on the fish and the decor. I've also been lazy, and most of my tanks were set up before ever considering a background.

I've started putting backgrounds on some, and found them to be a big pain in the behind to put on (and I hate putting tape on my aquarium. Also hate putting things like oil or petroleum on the back). I prefer paint, but I can't seem to find the "planted aquarium look" color in a can! :D Paint is easier, but I would hate to ruin a good glass aquarium! (I'm lazy and wouldn't feel like trying to get it off).

PS, yes I do realize there are easier ways to have backgrounds (like the painted cardboard and things like that), but as I've said before I'm lazy. So the basic answer to your question is that I'm lazy.

i will always have a background. i really dont have a desire to see my wall. cords. HOB. etc. it also helps disguise my heaters and sponge filters.

Edit; i guess that explains why i do have backgrounds, not why i dont.

reason i'd have no background: i had a really nice wall i still wanted to see. QT or growout tank.

many zillion reasons why i don't do background on most of my tanks-

few of them:

they're not permanment setups/ many reasons why baby hatch out/QT/ETC ETC ETC:

its annoying/tacky to me:

time consuming to make the background that I would consider acceptable- thats how tacky i find every single available 2d/3d background in da market right now

need to see where my filters/lines are at all times as I got my own reasons with house full of animals especially ferrets

makes the room bigger than smaller without the background if you had a room full of tanks you would know what I mean

again I don't want to paint my tanks and find that I want to move it and want a specific side to be shown then have to scrape the paint off - its just basically time consuming to do that.

I have my tank on the kitchen counter which divides the kitchen and dining room. I like to be able to look in three sides of my tank. The HOB filter is at one side, the heater is at the other corner, and all the cords are unobtrusively run down the outside corners and along the base to get to the power strip.

I like it. It works for me.

I think that this way would be the only way that I would run a tank with no background. I know that they can be a little bit more work, but they do look great. Though I do run a 10 gallon qt tank without a background.

I would love to have a background on my tank but I cant find a nice natural looking one that I like, so as for now no background.

My wall is black... So I don't really need to put up a background. Most of the cords blend in nicely with my wall.
