Just floating the bag doesn't acclimate them. It matches only the temperature, not the water chemistry. I always used the drip method, and some say that it is sometimes unnecessary but why take any risks? It is simple enough to do.
I put the fish in a bucket with the water from the store, using a bucket with an as small diameter as possible so that the store water stays at an acceptable depth in the bucket. I use a simple thin airline tube from the tank, attached to the inside of the glass with one of those sucker things from the LFS which hold airline tubing, with the other end in the bucket and a plastic valve on the end. I suck the end to get the water flowing and make the valve only allow one drop every 1-2 seconds for about half an hour, then step it up for another hour and a half, increasing the flow by quite a bit every half an hour. There are different ways of doing the drip method but this is how I do it, and remember to test the water in the bucket and tank before netting the fish in, as you may need to let it go for longer until the parameters are the same.
Good luck.
