No luck with mushrooms, why?

Yes, but what do you mean by "part"?

Are you running any kind of phosphate media as well?

Do you ever use a turkey baster or small pump to blow detritus off your rocks? Ever vacuum your sand?

Lighting definitely doesn't sound like its too much for shrooms. Are you sure they are 1 watt bulbs? Most DIY fixtures are 3 watts.

Not running any type of phosphate media atm. By part I meant just another little mesh bag of carbon. I dont have any kind of reactor atm

To be honest, I have never used a pump to blow detritus off of the rocks. I thought my CUC would take care of that for me. I do vacuum my sand bed probably every 3 weeks or so.

And the bulbs I'm sure are 1 watt LEDs

Take a turkey baster and blow it towrads your rocks. I think you will be surpised to see what comes off/out of them despite the best efforts of your CUC. Don't be too hard on them though, I'm sure they are doing the best they can :). This is the reason why flow (good flow) is so important in a reef tank. Yes, your corals need it but the role it plays in suspending detrtius is equally as important to the overall health of your system. I use a baster or a small pump every water change just before I start to siphon out water. Some even ziptie a turkey baster to their siphon tube.

I'm kind of at a loss with your shroom situation but the additional carbon may help. Not sure what brand carbon you are using, but you will tyipcally get a better quaility carbon and save a quite a bit of money if you go with loose/bulk carbon and your own filter bag. I would also suggest looking into a phosphate media (GFO) such as Rowaphos or Phosban. Bulk Reef Supply is another great place to buy bulk media. You don't have to run carbon or GFO in a reactor. Bags will work. GFO is very fine though so you will want to use the bags that come with the product which are almost like panty hose.

Alright. I have finals this coming week but this sounds like something I need to make time for this weekend. Im heading to the store today for that turkey baster.

There's an update on the shrooms. I moved them higher up than they were but back to where my drilled overflow is. Some of the shrooms seemed to have about doubled in size. This area is basically underneath the lid that covers my overflow box, so they're not getting hit with any direct light. This is not a spot that's easy to see them from in normal viewing. Actually someone who looks at my tank probably wouldn't even know they were there unless I told them to look in that spot. In the meantime, I'm just glad to see they dont look as shrunken up as they did.

I have 2 koralia 1400's and my return pump I believe is a mag 9.5. I have one of the koralias in the middle top of the left side of the tank and Im having alot of trouble finding a spot for the other one on the right side where its flow doesn't bother a coral. My tank is a corner tank so the shape is alot different than the typical rectangle which makes the flow alot harder to manage. Right now, I have the one 1400 just sitting there and the other 1400 on a one minute interval with a wavemaker.

Good to hear I dont need a reactor to run the GFO. Will definitely check it out

Glad to hear they are doing better.

Flow is really one of the hardest things to accomplish in a tank. If I turn my vortech up enough to keep my rocks fairly clean, I will peel flesh off of my SPS. My only recourse is to turn it down or move the corals (the latter is not an option because I am not rescaping may tank again!). I use the baster or a small pump on my rocks at least once a week. Helps to do it doing a water change and also while all your pumps are on full blast to keep the crap suspended so that your overflow/skimmer can pull it out.

:jaw-dropping: woah that's insane. are you using the mp40?

I've had bad luck, and good luck with mushrooms. I've found light to b the key. Mushrooms usual start to shrivel like blue ones in pic u showed when getting too much light. I've got mushrooms growing like mad now, but keep towards the bottom of my reef. Even hav couple growing in caves, getting nearly no light. So your problem could b too much light, try placing them in different areas of reef for couple days, see how they react.
