No morals what-so-ever...

The judge made his ruling because "it will give him enough time to be rehabilitated" I think 30 years of rehab would be better.

The only efficient government is a dictatorship. Who wants to live under a dictator?

Bush is a lier because we found no WMD, we should we have listened to france. Oh wait, they thought Iraq and WMD too. Sadam was the guy without a dog that put up a beware of dog sign.
Every time something goes bad in this country everyone jumps on the Bush bashing band waggon. Well in this case it was a STATE judge, not a federal one. So he wasn't appointed by Bush, he we appointed by (I have heard but cannot verify) Howard Dean.

It seems to me that most of the people who demand absolute freedom feel that no one else should have it. If Iraqi's really had a problem with us in their country they wouldn't ask us to stay untill their government is stable. They wouldn't be telling us where the terrorists are, which they are doing more and more.

There are 300 million people in this country, nothing can be perfect. Yeah people like that judge need to be taken care of but just because of a few problems in a huge society, doesn't mean that the whole world is falling appart.

Exactly.
Like Jeffery Dahmer.

For those who decided to make this a president bashing thread, take it somewhere else. That's a stupid hi-jack.

We are talking about a little girl that was raped. We are talking about the judge that failed to do justice.

This has nothing to do with Bush or the Iraqi War! Take it somewhere else before you get this thread locked.

What needs to happen is the people of Vermont to stand up and say they won't take it. They have to contact their governor. They must. If this is allowed to happen, there are others in neighboring states who believe they may get away with it as well.

Child molesters admit that they can not be rehabilitated. That judge is a moron and needs to be removed before he aides in the damage of someone else's life.

That sick m-fer is getting away with a disgusting crime. And the judge is commiting another.

There are people doing more than 60 days in prison for getting caught with pot!

I don't mean to hijack the thread but where is the outrage about the injustice of marijuana prohibition? I hear O'Reilly spouting off about how "the punishment should fit the crime." Well, I'd like to hear him (or anyone aside from NORML or any other "pothead liberal" organization whose credibility would be easily dismissed by mainstream thought) say something about all of these other ridiculous injustices that are going on around town. How about the guy who broke into someone's house, got hurt while in there, then sued the person and won?? There are countless amounts of these things going on in this country and everywhere else that is considered to be "civilized." So even though I have complete sympathy for the victim and I'm outraged by this situation, I cannot help but think about how we tend to pick and choose our fights based upon who knows what.

After all, what the hell was so important about Laci Peterson? There are women being murdered by their husbands all across the world and all throughout history, yet for some strange reason this case was in my face almost constantly whenever I was trying to see the real news of the day.

Back to the point at hand, I think everything has been said about this rape case that needs to be said. I only want to add one thought: there were thousands of people going nuts in the streets to try and prevent Tookie Williams from being killed, yet not one person has even held up a sign outside of the courthouse in Vermont as of yet. That really upsets me and makes me wonder where the humanity is when it's time to defend a victim or prosecute a criminal. I understand that we're a nation based upon rebellion and sticking it to the system, and I'm more rebellious than you'd ever believe, but I also have a need for justice and I find it dispicable whenever injustice is handed forth either from the powers that be, or from the peoples' lack of rage when they ignore their solemn duty to petition their government for a redress of grievances.

As Peter Griffin would say, "You know what really grinds my gears...."

Phew...lots of reading to do here.

And I'm not going to do it. To many views clashing with each other.

But, for the topic, it is disgusting to see that crap going on. I could rant long and hard about it but I won't. People may be arguing here but at least we can all agree that what happened to that girl and how the man was punished (IMO he should be cold laying face down in a hog lot) was not appropriate.

never intended for this to be a political free for all... :(

The good news is you can contact the governor of vermont to get this outrage of the justice system straightend out. I'm from PA and I've done it.

here's the email: governor@vermont.gov

simple, isn't it?

My daughter is 6. I can't even think of this without feeling sick to my stomach or tears coming to my eyes. That poor child, first the victim of a terribly evil man, then a victim of our justice system. Yes, something should be done.

My only question for graphic design is....what are YOU doing to help??? You lecture that it starts with us, but what are you doing??? Don't make the assumption that EVERYONE just sits around and does nothing to give back....that isn't a fair assesment.

I volunteer on a daily basis to give back to our community. I am a classroom volunteer for our public school system, and I help run a program for poor/ unwed mothers with their newborns by collecting supplies for new babies and helping them find the resources to get help. I spend hours a day sewing blankets too to wrap these babies in and several more hours a day on the phone just trying to find the supplies and help that is needed. My husband is a volunteer firefighter. He does not get paid but puts his very life on the line almost daily and its all to give back to the community. We have taught our children the value of "giving" and hope that there will be two more adults in the world some day who realize that to make a difference it starts with you. I ask again....what do YOU do?
