No more local fish stores?

Around here all the LFS charge around twice what Petsmart charges on almost everything. Only 2 out of 5 in a 30 mile radius have livestock any better than what I could buy at Wal-Mart and 1 of those 2 has some plants. Oh yeah but the catch is with the good 2, they also sell salt so if your in the freshwater section hope noone is in the salt or expect to wait awhile. Hate to say it but PetsMart is the best around here for livestock, just have a quarantine tank ready.

II never quite got over the loss of Scales (only 15 minutes from my house too!) and Tropical Fish World was sufficing as it's replacement. :( I called them and they said to watch their Facebook page to see if and when the owner decides to re-open.
Scales was the best and TFW was a close second. Interesting that we lose the better stores, while some of the others stay in business.

We the customers are probably partly to blame, buying equipment and food through Internet businesses and sharing livestock through aquarium clubs.

the places that stay alive are the lfss that also sell goods online as well as in store.

I have an pretty good LFS store in my area still. But they are so expensive!! I've pretty much stopped buying fish from them because I can get fish much cheaper from local fish breeders or through online group buys.

Sometimes the lfs has something I can't find elsewhere and I'll buy it but usually I just go in to see the fish I see online in person.
