No param changes after introducing established filter?

Hello, OP! Any updates?

Sorry guys, I've had a busy couple of days.

Let's see... to answer your questions, I put the flake food in about a day after I got the filter (I was hunting for some ammonia, but after driving around for ages, I finally gave up). I remember reading that it can take a couple of days before the readings start to change after using flake food, but so far there has been no change, so I guess it's best to assume that the media has gone kaput.

In other news though, I broke down and bought a Betta from The Wet Spot in Portland- a great place. Along with two dwarf frogs and a snail. Since I can't find ammonia, I decided to do a fishy cycle.

I've had Darby O'Gill now for two days and the readings are all still coming up at 0, so I'm going to continue monitoring closely. Should I give up the ghost and remove the old filter media? I would hate to have it gunking up my tank and doing no good anyway.
