NO substrate vacuming!!!!

I never gravel vac my planted tanks either. (Especially if they have sand substrates.) I'm with Sploke in that if an area develops a buildup of mulm, I'll either siphon around that area or kick up the mulm and net it out or let the filter get it. I keep my planted tank beds with a healthy population of MTS, as well. They help break down the larger pieces of mulm and their waste is the perfect plant food for the heavy root feeders.
