Noisy filter driving me insane

Today after doing my weekly water change, I turned the power back on for the aquarium, and the filter (older AquaClear 200) did not start up. I tried unplugging it, and plugging it back in, in another outlet, etc. but nothing worked so I figured it was dead.
I ran out and got a new AquaClear 50 (new model number, same unit) and hooked it up. It's running fine, but it's much louder than the old one! It's driving me nuts actually. Anyone have any home remedies to dampen the noise from these suckers?

what do you mean noise?is it motor noise.or water splash.i think the old one just needed the impeller cleaned and it would start back up.if its vibration noise you can try adjusting the flow control a little bit.mine vibrates a little i just move the flow control a little and it helps.

Ya the old one may still work . I have a old filter , every time I stop
it I have to bang it to start :) funny . Some times CLEANING will
solve the problem or While its plug in wiggle the water draw hose
It just might start .
The new one , Is it water noise exc........ Some times the magnet umpeller
is not set properly set between the moter and the water draw hose .

With the old one....take it apart and give it a good cleaning, including scrubbing the impeller and impeller-well....while you are doing this, check the impeller-shaft for wear, if there is any, replace it (cheap at about $1.50 each), as a worn impeller is often the cause of noise....you may also want to replace the impeller (almost cheap at about $8) if you see any significant wear or damage on it.

With the new one...make sure the impeller shaft is not loose and the impeller turning easily and properly.

I assume you primed it?? (you never know...)

I returned one because it was noisy, bought another just like it and it was quiet. Maybe something is up with the new one.

they do make more noise if they are sucking air..also check the impellar..could be some piece of plastic is stuck there and making a clattering noise.
