I just bought a penguin 100 filter for my 10g tank, and it works really well, but it's obnoxiously loud. It's not the vibrations because I've tested it to see where the source of the noise is, but I can't find it. What can I do? Thanks in advance for any help.

LD:

I believe that in the 100 the impeller is magnetically driven and the filter should not experience vibration.

You might consider "tearing down" the filter and cleaning the impeller housing and the impeller.

Okay, I think I'm going to do that today. Thanks!

are you sure the impeller housing is seated correctly? if not, the impeller may rattle and bounce in the housing.

It may have gotten sand in it. Clean the impeller and impeller housing.

magnetically driven, as opposed to what? All pumps, as far as I know, use electromagnets to spin the impeller shaft.

SM:

I may have used the wrong verbiage but the impeller is magnetically driven and not affixed to a shaft.

should have bought AC filters! my ac110/70's all run quietly tho I must top off periodically so I don't hear the waterfall!

Thanks for all the help everyone, but it quieted on its own. looks like it just needed a breaking in period!
