Yes, I fell for the mondo grass, not knowing at the time that it was not aquatic. Though I did like the look of it.
I have some in a 5.5g and its been doing fine. Though i'm sure it will eventually rot. Do you have any suggestions for other small/medium grasses? Or any other plants for that matter that may do well in such a small tank.

Thanks!

Dwarf Sags I think it's called. I have some in my tank.

Thanks Becca :)

A guy at the LFS told me he's had mondo grass in his tank for over a year now. So I don't know if I should stick with it for a while and just keep an eye on it or trash it.

look for microsword and dwarf hairgrass.. but your lighting has to be up to muster for those to grow well.

yea, unless your doing Do2 and high light, I would stay away from dwaf hairgrass and microsword. Especially the micro sword because without injected Co2 brush algae just can't help but grow all over the plant.

dwarf sag is a wonderful green, hardy, very easy to grow plant that will produce lots and lots of runners.

I bought a powder blue gourami at my lfs today(for my 29g). He threw in 4 clusters of dwarf hairgrass that were left over in the plant tank. I would refuse free fish, but I couldn't refuse free plants. :woot: I'd like to make my tank suitable for the hairgrass and any additional plants. I am definately new to aquatic plant care. I can admit it. :grinyes: Excuse the Noob questions...but how do you guys feel about the Hagen Nutrafin CO2 system? Would it work well for a small tank with a betta in it? And as far as lighting is concerned, what kind of options would I have with a 5.5g?
Becca, what is your set up like?

I've got a 10 gal tropical. I have a 75 watt heater kept at 79*. I have a HOB filter rated for up to a 30 gal tank. Sand substrate mixed with florite. 1 male CT betta, 4 julli cory cats, 5 mystery snails. There are some pics floating around here somewhere. I have java fern, java lace, java moss, rotala rotundifolia, ludwigia repens, and ludwigia glandulosa. I dose API Leaf Zone and Fluorish weekly. I have 2 10 watt CF natural daylight bulbs (2 watts per gal) Luckily my snails don't eat my plants. :)
