I test the water in my 10 gal planted aquarium once a week and dose twice a week with a big water change. One week ago (5/4) my iron levels were 0 ppm for non-chelated iron, and 0.2 ppm for chelated iron after dosing. Yesterday (5/11) I was astonished to find that iron levels were 0.35 non-chelated and 0.75 chelated. Makes me wonder if I accidently dosed iron twice without realizing it, but I use Flourish Iron (100% chelated). So where's this non-chelated iron comeing from?
I refrained from dosing iron this week and will so until both of these numbers come down. My worry is that the non-chelated iron is toxic to plants, correct?
The plants don't appear to be hurt, yet. At what concentration does non-chelated iron begin to affect plant metabolism and what signs can I expect to see?
Thanks for your help.
