Hey everybody, just thought I'd stop in and introduce myself. My name is Chad, i'm 21 years old. Always wanted to do my own aquarium setup. Finally decided to start to set it up. Right now just pretty much planning. Figured I'd join the forum since I know I'm going to have lots of questions. Im planning on doing a freshwater aquarium in a 30 gallon tank.

Hey Chad! A 30 gallon if perfect for beginers!

Well since I'm here, I know this probably isn't the right place to ask this question, but for some reason my thread in the newbie section is posting. I was curious if the fish I'm considering will work together in my tank. I was looking into getting:

Yellow Prince Tiger Pleco
Blue Cobra Guppy
Boesemani RainbowFish
Flame Dwarf Gourami
Porthole Catfish
Threadfin Rainbowfish
Upside Down Cat Fish

Anybody with experience here know if these will be fine together in my tank? It is the seaclear 24x12x24 acrylic tank. I did some research, it seemed they would be alright together. If they will be, am I going to have room to have multiples of any of these fish? Thanks for any suggestions you all can give me. Looking forward to learning more here from you guys.

Your list sounds pretty good maybe with the exception of the pleco. Most get pretty big so make sure you have room for an adult fish. And i would go with at least a pair of the guppies if not a few pair. Or at least a small group of male guppies to prevent breeding. The rainbows should be ok. I would plan on cycling the tank with some sturdier fish however, maybe some zebra danios or black skirt tetras, at least untill the tank is established. What kind of filtration do you plan to use?

Hi, Chad! Welcome to AC. It's great that you are researching before you actually start your tank. There's so much helpful information here.

There's some really good information about cycling your tank, which I thought, when I first set up a tank, was just filling it with dechlorinated water, turning on the filter, setting the heater, having some nice gravel and some decor. Cycled!! Nope. There's much more involved.

This will be soooo helpful.

You've come to the right place to learn about fishkeeping. These folks are generous with their time and gladly want to share the knowledge and wisdom they've gained from their vast experience. They sure helped me!!

No question is a dumb question. We were all newbies at one time, and you can learn from the mistakes we've all made and the mishaps we've experienced, and maybe you can avoid some of them.

I'm kinda long winded, lol, but I love to help, too. So... Welcome to our community.

howdy! I wish I had been able to start out with a 30g... as for multiples of those, what kind of filtration are you planning on using?

Welcome to AC!

I haven't really figured out the filtration yet. I was just getting around to learning more on all of that. I just started off finding the fish that I thought I would have wanted and figuring out the size tank I could use. I guess filtration has a pretty big effect on your fish? I still have a lot to learn before I go out and buy my fish.

The filter I'm considering is the Marineland Emperor w/Bio-wheel. I plan on adding some live plants, driftwood and rocks also. I will also be needing to add a heater as well to keep it around 78-79 degrees. I haven't quite figured out my lighting yet as to what will be the best way to go.
