normal for ADF's?

i just got 2 ADF's for my 5 gallon tank which has a betta in it. 1 of my ADF's bolts to the top of the tank swimming feriously and then floats around.ferisouly swims at the top again, then floats around and repeadly does this. Is this normal.

Yeah, they get these little bursts of activity once in awhile, nothing to worry about. They will shoot up to the top, grab a gulp of air, then zoom down to the bottom before they get picked off by something up top looking for a morsel.

Yep, mine do it all the time. Sometimes they'll float around on the top for 10-20 minutes. The bolting to the surface is just them breathing.

I'd say that is normal. They don't have gills, so they must go up to the surface to get air.
