hi...my black moor seems to just float around under the surface of the water...he swims fine when i feed them and he also plays with me when i do water changes...is he fine or is something wrong ....i see all of them floating around at the top just under the surface from time to time but he does it more than the others?? my tank temp is 77degrees farenheit..the water parameters i just checked and are

ammonia- oppm (its still yellow with a slight greenish cast..not quite .25ppm)
nitrite-0ppm
nitrate 20ppm
ph 7.5

so what do you think?????

I've noticed my one moor did that alot when he was new, but he's a little on the odd side anyways. However, I do notice this behavior in moors at the tank at Walmart way more often than the other goldfish, and just attribute it to a moor thing. Also, 77 is a little warm to a goldfish. All mine did that when the tank started warming up a bit as spring time came, particularly the aforementioned moor and my lionhead. After a few days the stopped. I think they got used to the water temperature. I would guess that is what's going on with him.

My panda is at the top right now. I wouldn't worry too much unless he is showing other signs of distress, like having a dorsal fin down when he swims. Mine just likes to chill out by the outlet of the filter. I think it is a telescope thing, too.

It might be a swim bladder thing too. With fancy goldfish, they have such a strange body shape that sometimes they have some problems. I have heard that diet can affect them too. I think you are supposed to soak their food before you feed them. Just some thoughts.

Maybe he is just lazy :) my black moor is like that sometimes. Mine tend to take it in turns to do strange things like that.

thanks guys this really helped alot...yeah Lisa I read about soaking the food so i did that this morning....if i just unplug the heater is that too drastic...i have been turning the dial back a little every day...this morning its reading at 74 degrees.....also i read on another site more just for goldfish that people feed them bananas ...oranges...broccoli...peas...lettuce....do you guys do that??? I tried the orange and the banana....they loved the banana...and if you do how much banana should they get...i would say they each took about a dozen little nibble off it before i took it out didnt want to over feed...lol

now that you mentioned the dorsal fin down....i noticed they all have their dorsal fins down while swimming????? so what does that mean??

even though the water paremeters wer fine i did a 50% water change and re arranged the decorations in the tank....lets see if that works????
