I will get a film on the surface if there is no water movement there. I just moved my power heads so that the surface is moving and then it cleared right up.

A very good point. pointing powerheads at the surface will bring the protein back down into the water and allow it to be skimmed out by your skimmer.

i have been been doing this too, but its not guna last long term and i would prefer the surface water to be getting skimmed.
