i guess i have had a hitchhiker or someone came over and dropped this odd little guy off in my tank. kind of odd that the guy shows up now since i havnt purchased anything in like 6 or more months now. Not to fond of nudibranchs or sea hares so dont know much about them. If anyone could let me know what kind this guy is that would be great, also if it is bad or good for my tank since some are not. I hope the pics open if not just e-mail me at uscavalry19d@windstream.net

I agree, not any nudibrach i've seen, though.

i kinda figured it was a nudibranch but i have never and i mean never seen anything that looked like this one. it is kind of odd because when it gets into a good current in the tank these polyp looking things that run all the way down each side of his body open up and start pulsing almost like a pumping xenia. oddest looking little thing i have ever seen. just no clue on where and how i got it in the tank.

not sure of a species name, but he looks like the type that east soft corals. i could be wrong however. of everything there is in this hobby, nudibranchs are probably one of the least thigns i know about since i never have looked into getting one. the only encounter ive had with any type are the montipora eating kind (which SUCK)
so do you have any soft corals? or did you? lol
id take him out anyways though just in case. and wear gloves

Fishieness is probrably right by saying it could be the type that eat soft corals....

Since I first noticed a nudibranch in an LFS and wanted to buy it, I have looked into some of the varieties and learned a little about these creatures. First off, I did a image search and found this:

To me, this looks exactly the same as the one in your picture. but i am not sure because it is hard to tell from a pic alone. Also, some other pictures of this type, the dendronotoid nudibranch, look a bit different so I wonder if yours is just young or if this person on the link above is just plain wrong about it.

I also found out that they can poison off a tank if they die, especially in smaller tanks without a lot of water to dillute the toxic stuff. I think this is becasue they can eat poisonous creatures without being harmed, but store all of that poison in their body so when they die, it leaches out into the tank. The only part I was unsure of about that then is if the same would hold true if they were never around a poisonous food source.

Hope that helps a little bit.

WOW yeah i do have to say that pic in the link you included is dead on to what my little friend looks like. I DID have a Colt coral that was doing good but then for some reason it started to, well disappear, Guess this little guy was the cause.
