nitrate .25 (w/c coming up so they go bye bye)
70lbs of LR
300Lbs of livesand
4X65W 50/50

they are moving to a 130G tank with 430W Halide 300lbs of LR (with mine)

my question is Who ATE ME CLAM!

maybe the deco crab. i've heard of them picking at clams before. what does the corpse look like? picked clean?

It's not the crab. I believe this deco is a herbavotic species

Edit: Not a Deco Crab. After looking into it more it's a small rock crab, It mainly feeds on phytoplankton untill 1" is reached then it eats macros etc....

all the stuff i've read says that decos are carnivores. maybe it's a different kind of deco crab? still, can you post a pic? if we can get a good look at the bite pattens, ect., then we can make a rough guess.

I would want to wait for someone whom has a little more experience with large marine Aquariums. not to be rude but I did state that it's not a Deco crab..

Sorry about the clam. Was there any signs of health issues before the clam died?
1) was clam gaping open?
2) was siphon/vent holes unusually large?
3) was mantle extended fully?
4) was clam answering to shadow stimuli?
5) what is your water quality like?

Those will rule out the clam itself as the culprit.

Things that can kill a clam...
1) predatory snails
2) predatory bristle worms like fire worms
3) predatory crustaceans
4) sometimes starfish have been known to be predatory on clams that are gaping

Obviously we can only speculate the cause of death but we can try to eliminate some possibilities.

there was nothing wrong with my poor maxima.

Was it picked clean or was it partially eaten? I'd almost suspect the damsels but, I don't have any proof etc. I still think that you have a hitch hiker of some sort this is the second mysterious death and or disapperance isn't it ?

I know I dont. shell is nothing but a shell, I know the clam was alive in the morning yesterday. I dont have any unknowns. I cured this rock myself
