O.K I am mad.

Tangs of the Zebrosoma genus are known to pick clams. The mantles wave like algae, which attract them. and they have no nemotocysts. (stinging cells to discourage foraging)

but alot of people think nothing is wrong with their clam because they do not ntoice the sometimes subtle symptoms, like our friend pointed out above. then, the detritivores take it out becuase the flesh starts to erode and it attracts them.

I'd guess the damsels. I've never had any experience with lobsters, but I've talked to people who have had them kill fish/inverts in their tanks, so I'd guess that too.
 
You do realise it could have been anyone of the above tank mates, you dont know what those guys get up to during the night, my guess would prob be a combination of the whole lot. They prob sat down had a meeting about it and said, hey once this sucker has gone to bed lets go and pillage the clam and have a picnic.

I would keep a close hawk eye on the fish to see if they have any remains of the clam hidden anywhere. If you find the culprate catch him out and eat him.

Things that can kill a clam...
1) predatory snails
2) predatory bristle worms like fire worms
3) predatory crustaceans
4) sometimes starfish have been known to be predatory on clams that are gaping

That is why I do search around for the best possible inhabitants for my tanks for I want to get others when these tanks are being stock with marine life to have what would prey on predatory bristle worms to keep their numbers down to a minimum :)
And in setting the clams in the sand bed is why I will look to every type of species that might keep their numbers down, for the worms come up under the clams, from where it has no defense. :eek:
