Obese Betta?

I think my fish may be obese? What do you think? I feed him only once daily, except for Saturdays, in which he fasts. He eats 2 biogold pellets and like 2-3 blood worms daily. That's all- no treats in between. But he has seemed to develop a round buddha belly. Maybe he's just putting on the weight that he lacked due to living in the cup at Petco with no food? Here's a few photos, not that great, but you can see his side profile, with his belly.

He lives in this 10 gal tank with one gold mystery snail. Im thinking about getting a few other fish for him to chase around, (ie tetras, neons, coreys etc) maybe that will help him slim down?

oh yeah, also, I don't think there is enough food stuff for my snail in the tank yet, so I crumple up a bit of tetra flake food that came as a sample in my tank, and I make that sink to the bottom where the snail feeds off of it. I make it sink pretty quick with a net so taht Merlot, my netta, doesn't eat it. He may get a bite here or there, but other then that, he doesn't eat anything else.

Hmm, fish don't really get obese... if his stomach is swelling and keeps getting bigger he could have an intestinal blockage. For that, I don't know of much you can do but wait and hope he, er, gets things flowing. Very good looking betta though and I like his name. I used to have a maroon clownfish named merlot but he committed suicide...

My betta (female) was a fatty (still eats like a lil piggy though) and after I introduced some new FB she slimmed down some. I also feel once a day but I fast on Sun.

I like your tank set up the colors look really good with merlot. Even decking out the outside of the tank is pretty unique :cool2:

Nice set-up. My Bettas eat everything and I mean everything, untill its all gone! I have to watch what and how much I put in the tank or ese the will gorge themselves!

Becca do you have a sister named ashley?

No, I have a sister named Jessica. Why do you ask?

Anyone else's opinion on my fat betta?

I think that he looks like a fairly normal betta. If you feel that he's getting chubby he could be constipated. Try feeding him some cooked, shelled peas, that should get things moving along for him. Good luck!

On a side note, when female bettas get extremely bloated in the belly area usually it means they are full of eggs.

I saw the vague reflection of you in the last pic and I thought you might be someone I knew. She's all into bettas too but I haven't seen her in a few years.
