Oceanic BioCube 8 gallon nano

With the covered top, I've found that I don't really have to top off much at all even in an 8 gallon. I check my SG with a refractometer so I know my reading is accurate. Surprisingly, my pH has stayed stable at 8.3 even with the covered top- lucky me.:)

Your lighting is stock correct? Two 18W powercompact, one actnic, and one 10k day correct? How do your corals do with the stock lighting because I am looking to see if I needed to buy a biocube that has been modded with more powerful lights?

I use the stock lighting, you are correct that it's 1x18W 10K and 1x18W actinic, plus 2 lunar lights (blue, really makes coral glow). It really depends on what you want to keep as far as coral, whether or not you'd want to mod the lighting. You won't be keeping any sps or some species of lps, but you can keep all softies and some lps like frogspawn and candy cane, stuff like that. If you want to see how my corals are doing under stock lighting, I think my corals pics give you a pretty fair idea... you'll have to be the judge on that one but I'm certainly satisfied so far.

I don't feel the need to mod my lighting because I'm about to set up a 50 gallon reef, and I can just add more light to that tank when funds permit.;) As for you... are you sure that you wouldn't save money by buying the JBJ brand or Current Aquapod with HQI? Keep in in mind you may have heat issues with either of those, especially the JBJ since the halide is built into a closed lid. However, you'll surely be topping off a lot with the Aquapod, as it is open top.

There are two lps I rele want to keep and those are frogspawn and brain trachyphyllia. I have looked into a modded aquapod and a modded biocube and only thing I am really interested is in an integrated fuge light and there is a biocube that adds another PC for a 50/50 and thats not much more expensive. If I buy the biocube 14 I will also buy the biocube skimmer ( heard good reviews) for the first part of the filter, then have a refuge in the middle, then put the heater in somewhere. Mostly I want to stock it with soft corals and the fish I would like to add is the firefish, a clownfish, and some sort of goby and thats about it. I really just want to make sure that you would suggest it for what I plan to do with it.

on a different forum people have told me they have trouble with the lighting getting too hot. Have you had this trouble?

Sorry about me asking all these questions but I have found a biocube 14 for 110$ locally should I jump on this even though I am not ready to set my aqaurium yet?
