It was just a few seconds with MATLAB.

Actually took longer to figure out how to save it and transfer it to Photobucket - I'd never posted MATLAB plots to the web before.

An engineer can't leave a good math problem alone.

If all sides are 10" and front to back is 17.5", then lengthwise would be close to 27", and the tank would be 45g.

I think a hex with 10" sides can achieve 17.5" from center of pane to center of pane, though. Which would be roughly 26g.

*glancing at above post* That would be very odd shaped..

But seeing how you guys are doing diagrams and dimensions.. I know who i'll hire to build me a tank!

If it's a rectangle I can figure it out, once it gets more involved I get lost in the math :)

Actually, there are octagon "tower" tanks and octagon coffee table tanks. Pretender's would be the coffee table, and it sounds more like that type of thing to me. Dunno :)

Coffee table tanks I have seen seem to get narrower at the bottom then the top, and these tanks seem cruel to me for the fish.

We need pictures of said tank :) *click* *flash* Viola, picture :)

I was wondering about that. I have a hex similar to that size. It should be a 45 gallon.

So, aplying my triangle formula, we go there:

Base of triangle: 10"
Height of triangle: 8.75"

(10" x 8.75")/2 * 6 * 24" = 6300 cubic inches
triangle area sides height = 27 gallons

Your tank is aproximately 27gallons.
