Odyssea 3 level CFS500 Canister Filter + UV

CWO4GUNNER

USN/USCG 1974-2004 Weps
Anyone wonder if this 3 sponge filter is actually 1/3 larger then the gray 2 sponge model? Without my MOD there would be no difference since only the top 80 SI surface area of the sponge is exposed. However if this model is indeed 3 sponges tall or 1/3 taller or is the canister just sitting on legs and the sponges smaller. If actually 1/3 more sponge mod would make the surface area for this filter about 450 SI and the clear housing would really allow one to see the filtering in progress and when ready for change. For an extra $20 those added benefits plus UV might be worth it.

Anyway I wrote the seller and hope to get an answer to this question. Didn't ask about the O-rings this time, hopefully that's OK with everyone lol. :uhoh:

That's a CFS-700 not a 500 in the picture but some of the specs are for a CFS-500 but the height I think is for a 700. The CFS-700 is the next model up and yes its quite a bit bigger then the 500 you already have. It also has a clear (see through) canister body. It also has a 650 gph pump not a 500 gph pump as it says in the blurb.

Well it says it's 22" tall so I say get one and if it's a 500 report it?

I'm ready to buy one of these as soon as I hear back on the size ;)

Well Im all set as far as need goes and cant justify it. But if I ever build that pond under tha gazebo Im building Ill be canablizing a couple FX5's from indoor tanks to filtera pond, then Ill have a need. One thing is for sure if these CFS500 modified work as good long term as they do short, I will not be buying anymore FX5's for my indoor tanks as long as the CFS500 is 1/4th the price.

Well if I read right, the cfs700 comes to 30" tall with the shut off valve. That's far too big to fit under either 55g cabinet I have so I'm going for the cfs500 with the UV. If it works out I'll switch to CFS filters all around.

Yup I considered the size of the clear model being way too tall as well, and can barely fit the gray model into the older stands with small doors. In fact I was forced to take my jigsaw and cut a small notch in the door frame to the gray model could clear the doors. The good news is that the gray model is barley too large so the cut was small enough that it cannot be noticed once the cabinet doors are shut. However I also have some some tall and wide open DIY frame stands that would fit this larger filter should I need to replacment an FX5 using one of these with a 1200 GPH pump.
