odyssea metal halide

I've got the 36 inch version. It's not the most lavishing lighting system, but for the price they are great. The only thing I don't like is they are very wide. I don't know how big your tank is, but I have a 55 breeder (18 inches wide) and with the mounting system they send with it didn't fit on my aquarium. I ended up getting 2 aluminum tubes and screwed them to the side of my stand (home built special with more 2x6s then the tank would ever need) and suspended the light from the tubes. If you are thinking of dangling the lights from the ceiling I think they have a mounting kit for that. Oh, and the moonlights are extremely bright on the system (I have thought of just using 2 of the 4, yea they are that bight).

oh geeze i hadnt realized how wide they are, my tank is exactly as wide as they are. i dont think taking them off every time to feed wuld be any fun

yeah, mine didn't even fit because of the hob filter. As I said, unless you mount it from the ceiling, or, depending on you stand, build something to hold the light up over the tank, theres not a real way to hold it on there. Also remember the legs stick out probably an extra 2-4 inches, so they may not even be able to sit on the aquarium.

They stick out on the width, so somewhere between 16-18 inches wide. I know mine barely fit, I would have to remove the hob filter and had no room to work on the aquarium if I used the legs. If I remember right (sorry I'm at work or I'd go look) there are channels running the length so you could adjust them length-wise (if I remember right, which at this time of night everything gets a little fuzzy).

I own the 24" model and for the money you cant beat it however, it is very wide and this does nessesitate it being hung.

I have the 48" model, so has another MH and more lunar lights and CF, works great for the price. Legs are fully adjustable, I have the glass covers on my tank, no problems with feeding. Only issues are when I would need to put something large (like a large rock) into the tank that wouldn't fit between the space of the light and the top of the tank. But, considering the 48" isn't heavy at all for this girl, a smaller one shouldn't be a problem to take off or just lift up - whichever is needed. Personally, I find no reason at all for mine to be hung.
