officially became vegetarian about a week ago!

Dont become a "YOU MUST BE VEGETARIAN!!!!!" preacher...people will grow to hate you

That is SO true. It's one of the reasons I don't like vegetarianism. I am all for eating less meat, eating locally, eating sustainably, etc... but the best way to make an impact is to get a LOT of people to just eat a little bit less meat. Vegetarians, often, make it seem like people have to do exactly what they are doing. There are LOADS of ways to be ecological/sustainable, etc...without doing that. I have a friend who preaches that her being Vegan is SO enviro-friendly...she doesn't use energy efficient light-bulbs.

But, it's not all vegetarians, I know. Many are just doing it for their own health, or a personal belief. Which is great!

I think it's great that you are doing it- I wish I could but I dislike too many foods to make a diet that is nutritionally sound. And I wish you luck. Just please don't become one of those condescending vegetarians that thinks they are better than the rest of us who like meat!

Ok I am eating enough and good veggie foods but I noticed now I have a slight cold(sniffling, coughing with an occasional wheeze) that's lasting for a few days, is their one nutrient/vitamin/mineral I'm lacking in paticular or is my body adjusting to the new diet or is it just a regular cold that will pass?

Also make sure you're getting enough protein. Beans and lentils are great. Look into vitamins if you feel you're lacking in something. Read your labels. You'd be amazed I found refried beans were not veggie friendly afterall.

I was for about 3 years. And weighed 109, and looked like hell. But I was not able to afford to be healthy. Once I got to the point where the bones were sticking out of my back, my best friend Jake kinda forced me into eating meat again. (but I was DIRT POOR) Just cant stay healthy on 99c burgers with only lettuce and tomato....Make sure you do it right. I miss it. My husband now says if I do it again and starting looking like I came out of a concentration camp, he wont touch me. But when I don't eat meat, I cant stay healthy....Good luck, stay smart about it. ( And the ONLY top ramen you can eat now is orental) and MSN, is animal fat, and its in about everything....

this thread makes me want a hamburger...

I don't have issues with anyone choosing to be vegetarian. but only suggest you research your food carefully
particularly regarding essential amino acids.
you do need complete proteins which can be difficult on a vegan diet without adding certain foods.

good luck
