They also need suppliments - See if you can find the Aqua Vitro line at your lfs. Use the entire line as directed.

please understand that I've been doing this for a while and researching for over two years.

I don't have a protein skimmer, with the anticipated bioload, I really won't need one.

HOB filter? Why not? It's filled with biomedia and allows me to easily add phosban, carbon, or whatever if needed.

saltcreep? Are you referring to increase in salinity due to evaporation perhaps? You have that with any system. You replace the lost water with RO. If you're really enterprising a $30 system of float switches connected to a pump and a bucket of RO water will take care of it...

All corals need light? What about non-photosynthetic corals? What about mushroom that are perfectly happy under light that a SPS would starve under? Do you know what light I have on this tank?

While we're discussing it, what corals do I plan to keep in this tank? I know, do you?

Supplements will be added as a need for them arises AFTER TESTING the water.

I love that tank Ogre. Looks really nice so far.....Can't wait to see it progress. (I will just live vicariously thru you, ok?) :huh:
 
Not ment to be rude - Saltcreep is the crusty stuff that is going to develop because your pouring your water back into the tank like a water fall. What type of light are you using. Normal Flo. or more than that. All photo property is lost under normal light at 12 inches of water depth. Once again not to be rude.
 
The salt splashing is really minimal. The level of the water in the tank is actually touching the bottom of the ramp of the filter.

The light is a 96W Power compact with a dual actinic and 10k bulb. The stocking will be a few zoas and another shroom above the halfway point (12inches as a matter of fact) and some macro algae in the sand and back corners (oar grass, red graciillia(sp?), that sort of thing). Maybe some non or minimally photosynthetic items near the bottom.

Other items, the ubiquitous snails, but fewer than normal, I doubt I'll have that much of an algae load with the macro. 2 true perculas, a small goby of some type and a fire shrimp.

Thanks, it just kind of takes me aback when people assume I don't know what I'm doing. I may not entirely, but I have studied the heck out of it.
 
Just trying to pass on 30 years of trial and ERRORS I have learned over the years. The lighting is fine assuming you have 2 96w bulbs.Viable light penitration is about 20 inches on PC's. Keep in mind that the rock and critters need elements that are removed daily from the system. So keep your eye on them. Once again my appologies if I came off as being rude. I just like to get to the point of things.

Well there might be SOME salt creep if the outlet of the filter was high enough above the water to create a pretty significant splash
