Ogre's 44g Build

Quick update: I did a water change last night as well as hunted a few more flatworms.

I got some new frags today. We got some dragon's eye zoas, a small leather frags, and a freebie birds nest SPS.

We'll see how the birds nest does. It's going on the highest point it can. We're really considering an upgrade in the lighting.

Pics when they get settled.

New Pics

The new stuff isn't open yet, but here's pics anyway. I still can't get good shots at night. The flash must fire or the exposure time is too long. My wofe could do better. The flash really washes out color.s

All I've got is PCs. 96W 10k/actinic.

I know, it's probably not really enough for the SPS. Like I said, it was a freebie.

I'd like to go T5 or even metal halide. The problem is that I don't have a top piece other than the plastic cover and the tank is pentagonal, so any lamps would have to be hanging and I'd have to leave the top open. I can garuantee that a cat or kid will end up in the tank sooner or later.

a 24" T-5 setup fits nicely across the tank. thats what i used when i had mine setup. i would suggest getting a 4 bulb setup.

Did you have it resting on the plastic cover or over open water? If you had it resting on the cover, did you have heating problems? If not, how did you mount it?

This is a pentagonal tank.

Another quick update. The trumpet coral is definitely dividing. Pretty soon I'll have three heads on that one. The torch looks to be adding another head as well.

We had a problem with the Zoas not opening... then discovered zoa eating nudobranches. We sucked up 7 today and most of the zoas have already reopened.

We're seriously considering other lighting option. Best idea is to go with a 96W T5 and put a glass top on the tank.
