Well, If been talking about it for a while, but we're ready now. [i.e. the economic stimulus check came in
] I've got it partially filled and I won't put any more in until I get all the live rock and sand in it.
I've got 42 pounds of black sand and I'm going to order another 40 pounds. That should give me a 2.5" sand bed. I'll put the sand in after the rock, so that will help thicken the bed some too.
I've got a Koralia 1 and an Aquaclear 70 in it. I'm also ordering another Koralia 1. Those together will give me about a 20x turnover. It'll go up when I get my skimmer and/or HOB refugium.
I'm ordering the live rock from Tampa Bay Salt Water. I wanted to initially and talked myself out of it. But Annette said to get it and I'll be much happier... I'm inclined to believe her. I'm going to set it up to come in a week from today. That means a trip to Houston, but hopefully it will be worth it with critters and stuff right from the beginning.
Stocking list (sort of):
Pulsing Xenia of some kind.
Short tentacle purple plate coral.
Display quality Macro Algae
--Codium isthmocladum
-- Flame Algae
-- and/or sea lettuce
other zoas, corals, etc to be named later
Now that I've got black sand, some really cool black fish are coming out. But they'd just fade into the substrate. For now (evetually) I'd life a orange diamond goby, a clown of some kind, a lemonpeel or flame dwarf angel (maybe). I'd love one of the smaller butterfly fish instead of the dwarf angel, but they might be kind of tight in the tank. Maybe a blue or zebra dartfish.
What do you guys think?
BTW: the brown on the top of the tank is the plexi still covered in the brown paper. I'll take it off soon. I'm pretty disappointed with the plexi, but I'll live with it for now.
