Ogre's 46g Bowfront Reef

You make the darkside tempting. When you figure it all out and publish the Salty for Dummies book, let me know! I'll have to study it for a long while. ;)

Hooked, saltwater is not the dark side. Freshwater is the dark side... easier, quicker, cheaper. The Earth is 75% saltwater. Reflect on this my young Padawan Learner.

All saltwater begins in river basins, rain, and Ice caps which are all freshwater. Perhaps you need to reflect my friend.

But all freshwater begins as the sun evaporates the sea. ;)

The Sun provides light and leaves the salt behind... hence, salt = dark side. :grinyes: I'm still tempted though. Keep posting updates so that I can learn along with ya.

Minor update. I had to pull the sponge. It was turning white and smelled very bad. I've revamped my saltwater production system and we'll see how well it works out.

At the moment Ammonia is still at 1 ppm. Hopefully, the bacteria are catching up. I've decided to leave the HOB filter on for the foreseeable future. It will create an instant quarantine/hospital tank when needed.

My wife is talking about getting an HOB refugium for my birthday. The tank isn't on a normal stand and I'm not dirtying up the rest of the dining room with tank stuff (according to her). However, she was recently impressed with a 225 gallon reef on reefcentral. So there's hope for my future.

I just been doing general cleaning (salt spray from the HOB) and watching the critters. The whelk has been cruising up and down the tank. There are at least two crabs, maybe three in the tank. The Mexican Caulpera has some new 'shoots' already (I'm guessing it's sucking up the nitrates as fast as it can).

The urchin and crabs are becoming a little bolder, moving around even with the 10k light on.

Big thanks to AnnetteG for the help. Next time we're in Houston, let's do lunch.

I'm happy & sad for you. :) :(

Now, I need to go read about gorilla crabs.

Thanks for the updates. It's really cool and helpful to be able to follow along.
