oh god what is this

These... THINGS are all over the glass in both my tanks (though not where the light is strongest i.e. near the top), they sway to and fro, and look scary. What are they? Are the things on the ramshorn snail the same thing (see pic below)? Should I kill them? Are they dangerous for shrimps?

I'm not sure what I'm looking at... I looked at your flickr pics, 1 and 2 here arent showing up.

Could you describe what they look like up close? #4 looks like slime coat or fungus?

Edit: on closer inspection the very large resolution shot of your snail shows them to look like little white tree-like shapes. Like a fractal coral branching. I'm not familiar with this stuff but I'm sure someone will recognize it.

It's a 20L, inhabited by 2 platies and a handful of pond and ramshorn snails. I change 5-10 gallons every 4-5 days.

Up close, they look like tiny, segmented hydras made out of light-brites, if that makes any sense...

it looks like fungus to me though i dont know about it growing on snails a good water change and vac all the leftovers off the bottom took care of it for me.

on several of your pics it looks like calcium deposits it looks like the snail has a fungus
also some type of worm. I would do a 20% water change every other day. Also check the snails shell for hardness. You can lightly scrub the snails with a soft tooth brush. Be careful what you treat with some meds will kill snails.

If the snails are pond snails you probably brought in some unwanted inhabitants

#1, not sure on the worm but would do my best to eradicate.

#2, pretty sure those are bacteria colonies and harmless.

What type of filter (how much flow) do you have? A powerhead would probably get rid of it, but I also don't think it's anything to particularly worry about.

what are your parameters? it looks like you need to do a couple of water changes...
