oh no assassin multiplication :-(

i would forget about the loaches and look into wut it takes to ship assassins and if you think you could do it i would just sell the off spring and make a little side money. ive seen them going for $3-4(US) each so im betting you could sell them for about the same price if not a little cheaper plus the cost of shipping and could could just sell all the babies once get get to like 3/8in-1/2in

well hubby missed the aquatics centre by 5 mins :irked: oh well. as for the breeding them to ship them out, i dont know if it would be worth it. i brought my 3 for £2 each. if you add postage onto a price worth me charging it people wouldnt buy them. our local centre has hundreds of them in every tank. wipe them out, i figure it to be my best option.

No real danger of the assassins clearing out the mts completely. I had at least 50 in a 10 gallon tank for months, and after the last of them moved out (they never did lay eggs) the mts reappeared out of the substrate and new little ones started turning up all over. Ironically, I had wanted them to breed, but apparently they didn't have enough "food" snails to get going in a small tank.

It has been said and has been proven in my tank that not all 100% of the eggs will hatch. I seen dozens and dozens of eggs and maybe 60% if not more hatch.

You're heavily overreacting. Assassin snail eggs
all don't make it, as darryl said. When they do hatch, not all babies
make it either. They reproduce slow, very slow, even if they lay a ton of eggs. The population increase is very slow so it is
easy to maintain. It takes a long time to establish a good
colony that breeds out assassins rapidly, a very long time. I started with 10 and it took me about 5-6 months to get them going and seeing babies grow up. My colony doesn't even breed that rapidly either, so population control is easy as I only have to pluck a few out every month or two in order to keep it the way I like it.

Seeing as how you only have 3, I really don't think you need to take so many extra measures for something that isn't very problematic.

I was given 3 assassin snails so I dropped 1 in each tank to prevent them from over spreading. I only had the ocassial ramhorn anyhow and pluck them out whenever i see them. Figured 1 snail in each tank should be able to keep them in check. Just seperate the 3 and you should be fine, it would put a stop to the eggs anyhow. Unless they produce by themselves

sell the extras in the classifieds here.

on a side note i saw your thread and thought... "sounds like a math problem"

 ive seen so many of their eggs i just dont want to end up with tanks full of them. theres no way i can feed them and i dont want them dying of starvation and pulluting my tank. obviously they will be ok while the MTS and ramshorns are present, but when they run low i cant feed them bloodworms etc as my fish will eat them way before they get to them.

yes, i admit, i do very much overreact to any little problems with my tank :p: im a worrier!

as for the loaches, il have a think and see, and check out what my lfs has in stock over the weekend. thanks for the replies.

Yea I agree Assassins are kinda tough to breed, well sometimes. Mine were in a 7ph> tank and had extensive shell damage it was absolutely disgusting. I can't even believe they survived months in that crappy 5 gallon. Too bad mine don't breed even with over feeding of pond snails.
