The pool filter sand is fine. I have that in 3 of my tanks and everything is fine.

The soil might be your culprit. Although many can get away with fully potted/planted shrimp aquariums, some will say that they ultimately don't mix the two.

Update: more deaths. Population is hanging by a thread.

However, my amanos are pinkish now due to them eating the dead cherry shrimp....such a lovely color tho :/

Can you post your all of your water parameters? Including temp, KH and GH...and also what you feed the shrimp.

I have a customer that had a problem with a major die off of RCS and we found it was due to an imbalance of his temp, food and Gh.

I notice a periodic die off of my females as well, I figured just part of the cycle of life

I had the same happen a while back, but then they bounced back...
