Oh The Humanity, Please Help

why am i plauged with ick, i can't seem to get rid of it. i have a large 55 gallon tank with 3 black skirts and 2 goldfish in it( yes i know goldfish are coldwater) i am treating it with quick cure and temp is 85+, and it has been a week of treating,

i have a ten gallon that i put my striata loaches and dojo loach in along with 1 male and 3 female swordtails( swordtails were moved here b/c the picked on my large goldfish) loaches were put here b/c they cant be treated with quick cure. so far i have been using3/4 tsp per gallon of salt to treat, it has been three days of this and temp at 86+.

i have lost to neons(i figured they wouldn't make it) and i striata loach, the other is on its way.

what is wrong here i have never had and outbreak last this long. :huh:

The reason you keep getting it might be because you are killing the ich on the fish, and not the ich living in the substrate. Put salt in the water, and if that doesn't work, look for a good medicine- one of my favorites is malachite green. I use Nox-Ich, (sodium chloride and malacite green), and as an added bonus it kills other bacterial and fungal infections.

After reading your siggy, I thought ich wouldn't come anywhere near you. :laugh:

Essentially you have not given ich time to be killed, and you are not using enough salt to kill ich in the loach tank.

At elevated temps, the cycle in the fish is usually 3-4 (give or take a couple) days. since you don't have enough salt to kill ich, whenever you raise the level appropriatly then 3-4 (give or take a couple) days later you should start seeing ich dissapear and not return. After that continue treatment long enough to kill the ich and you'll be done.

As far as the tank with meds, the time frames are the same, but you need to ensure that the dosage is high enough, and you do not have excessive organic material in the tank. In case you haven't already done this remove all Activated carbon from the system.
