It sure isnt a chain store only thing... Ive got quite a few mom n pop fish stores around here, and they jam fish into display tanks, and suggest you do the same. 15-20 frontosa in a 72 bow? Oh they fit perfectly.

I dont see many of the 'huge' fish in chain stores around here, the biggest fish are 'larger' cichlids, oscars, texas, etc.

But the private stores sell some massive fish. One sells nurse sharks quite often...

are these true nurse sharks???? those can get well over 6 ft!

theres a lfs in california that would sell baby black and white tipped sharks. but you couldnt buy them unless you could prove you had the facilities to house an adult shark. and i remember these sharks costing thousands of dollars.

I saw a tiny baby red tail cat at a LFS in my area recently...it was only about 3 inches long and the most beautiful little fish I had ever layed my eyes on. But knowing that cats generally get rather large I left it right where it was....good thing too... I looked it up and found out those things get over a hundred pounds !!

I wonder how big the aquarium was that he ended up going to...and, if they knew just how big that guy would get and that he would eat EVERYTHING that would fit into his mouth !!

I do give credit to the girl I had asked about it. She did tell me he would need a large tank and that they are very aggressive and should be by themselves....but I don't recall her telling me they would actually need a couple 'THOUSAND' gallons to swim around in.....lol....

They have another one at the store which is in a small tank and is about at least 10 inches at present. I wonder what the store is going to do with him if they don't sell it soon....

What's worse, how many people say...I'll just let him go in the lake if he gets too big.

i ALWAYS go to Big Al's I find there is two guys who have never streered me worng. They GREAT. This is in BArrie Ontario. IT is really nice to go in and ask question and get real answers. And they will tell me if it is a CRAP product. But more importanly they will tell me if there might be any problems with my fish. Like size, or community fighting.

EX. I bought 10 tetras and 1 groumis, they told me to watch out because the groumis may go after the tetra. I have been watching they he never has.

I bought the three bettas I'm putting into a divided tank last night and some dude behind me says: "You know, betta only fight if they're jealous of the other's colors. Yup, we put two with the exact coloring into the same tank and, *poppy noise*, nothin' happened."

I beat him to death in my mind.

My sister once told me the lfs near her sold great whites.
nothing surprizes me any more
To my knowledge, great white sharks don't survive in captivity, so I doubt that is what they really where even if that is what the label said.

mental assault and battery is a felony in some states. Or was that a book i was reading. Anyway,

I just love that 10G starter kit at walmart that has the picture of about 20 fancy bubble face goldfish in the tank. All obviously (to me at least) photoshopped into the picture in such a way to make it look like a 50-100g tank. Im thinking the tropical kit had about 3-4 channel cats or bala sharks in the bottom also. Tempted to buy one and take it back because i couldnt figure out where to put the other 90G of water needed for those fish. but that would take effort and im not carlin-esque to actually pull something like that off with a straight face.

Thier very existance is proof of human cruelty, fancy gold fish have been selectively bread until they are slightly twitching blobs of slightly living flesh that would have 0 chance of living well anywhere else but an aquarium.. but i wont get into that rant tonight.
