Well this weekend my Ehiem 2028 Pro II developed a mystery leak somewhere and overnight drained about 12 gallons of water onto the floor. Pretty fun. I called Dr F&S and they said it would be 3 weeks until I get another filter. I called back today and they agreed to ship me one out next day today or tomorrow. I can deal with that. After all, I can function with just a skimmer for a few days, especially with no fish in the tank yet.
Today I came home to find my skimmer not skimming. The pump wasn't pumping anything at all. So I unplugged it, reset all the power strips, plugged everything back in and into new outlets, nothing. I picked up the pump and it was vibrating. Confused I unplugged it and started taking it apart. Then I came upon this:
The ceramic shaft broke. But not just that:
It backplate that holds the shaft also broke. So when you take the back cover off, you can see all the way through the pump, not good.
So I got to call Dr. F&S again, 10 days for Coralife to send me the a new pump assembly. This really has me worried that it could happen again, so I'm looking into a AquaC Remora Pro to replace it after the new pump gets here.
When it rains it poors huh? Or in this case, leaks, fails, or burns up.
