Oil-Dri

I just put the Oil Dri in my 55g tank after rinsing it in a wire mesh kitchen strainer and added water w/ my Python. What a mess! When I rinsed the stuff I made shure that the water that ran through the Oil Dri was nice and clear before I put it in the bucket to take to the aquarium. I thoudgt that it was rinsed well because I have used this method a few times before and knew that it worked. But I was wrong, very wrong.

It looks like when the cloud diminishes I'll be at it with my Python and try to vac up the mess that I missed in the rinsing. Don't get me wrong, I dont mind the work. I've found that if I simply accept that the work must be done AND DO IT I have better looking and healther tanks that I can enjoy even more for my effort.

I still think that it will be worth it in the end. Plus I still like the deal I got. $10 on the Oil Dri (I had a friend who runs his own garage deliver it to my house) vs $140 plus on Fourite or Eco (from That Fish Place) and shipping.

I'll let you all know how the clean up job goes.

Well, I just did a vac of the substrate and man did I pull up a bunch of sediment. I must have gown through at least 40g of what this 55g can hold with 4in of substrate. And it looks like I will have to do this a number of times. Oh well, it just means that once all is said and done and I have it stocked with pretty plants and pretty fish I will enjoy it even more for all the work that I put into it. Right?

it will settle down over time.

Thanks, but for now it is very dusty. Do you suggest that I continue to vacuum it or should I just leave it alone for now ? :nilly:
