OK - I used a capful and a half to dechlorinate my tank. How long should I wait before I put in my ammonia so that the Prime doesn't detoxify or kill it or whatever. You know, when Prime would have no affect on it. AND... how much ammonia should I start off using in a 55 gallon tank, and how long after should I wait before I test my ammonia level? How long for it to circulate to get a true reading? An hour or what?

What are you using as your source of ammonia?

One part per million of water would be figured as 1mg/L. A 55g tank is 208 liters, and I'm going to assume that you are after 1ppm solution in your tank. (obviously you don't want the ammonia TOO high to start with) Water weighs 1mg/mL, so if liquid ammonia is comparable in weight to water per the same volume, then 208mL would generate a 1ppm solution.

Come to think of it, my math might be off there... 208mL seems like a lot in 208L of water... can anyone confirm or correct what I suggested?

Well I was told to start off with anywhere between 3-5 PPM to start my cycle. 1 Seems a little low. Anybody else clarify?

IMO you're better off using a chlorine/chloramine only conditioner like NovAqua. Prime will mess with your ammonia dosing.

What do you mean you never treat your water until you end it with a major water change?

Are u sure if i wait 24 hours it wont kill off my ammonia
