OK - I used a capful and a half to dechlorinate my tank. How long should I wait before I put in my ammonia so that the Prime doesn't detoxify or kill it or whatever. You know, when Prime would have no affect on it. AND... how much ammonia should I start off using in a 55 gallon tank, and how long after should I wait before I test my ammonia level? How long for it to circulate to get a true reading? An hour or what?

One part per million of water would be figured as 1mg/L. A 55g tank is 208 liters, and I'm going to assume that you are after 1ppm solution in your tank. (obviously you don't want the ammonia TOO high to start with) Water weighs 1mg/mL, so if liquid ammonia is comparable in weight to water per the same volume, then 208mL would generate a 1ppm solution.

IMO you're better off using a chlorine/chloramine only conditioner like NovAqua. Prime will mess with your ammonia dosing.
i never treat the water until i end it with a major water change. prime is great. i use it and so does many other people. most people start out with 5ppm and keep it at 3ppm.

An hour should be fine. I would dose ammonia till it gets to 3ppm. The entire tank volume should be turned over enough in an hour.
