After a few months or so with barely adequate light (<1 wpg) and very minimal plant growth I have decided to get down to business and upgrade. I have 30 gallons (36" length) and would like to shoot for about 2 wpg.

I have searched around on and off trying to find something but I always end up forgetting to research farther or convince myself that I dont need a new fixture. I am really a newbie when it comes to lighting so I dont really know what is best anyways. Therefore I need help finding a fixture and the right combonation of bulbs for a planted tank. Please keep in mind that I do have budget restraints. Anything at or under $100 would be preferred.

Thanks!

I had been doing prior research for best prices and here it goes..

For 3wpg
seacorals.net has a 96w fw coralife fixture for $87.99
Bigalsonline has that same 96w fw coralife fixture for $89.99

What you do is first find the final price of both fixtures with s/h
Then if seacorals price is lower than BigAls you call bigals 800(888) number :1-888-824-4257
And request their price match + 5% off ($5 off)

Once you get the light you enjoy you 3wpg and send me $5 tip

(ofcourse theres other fixtures, ill include more info as it comes to me)

Hey mg how do those end up working? Am I supposed to just place them on a glass cover?

What bulbs would be best?

I was going to ask the same question. will the glass get hot? what kind of canopy does one "make" I also am looking for new lighting. and need to know how to mount, or lay them over my tank.

might get a little hot but not bad. i have some on glass right now..... others i then mounted over time..... you can build i hood or canopy. even retro fit a hood.
