a week and a half of 88 degrees and aprox 2tsp of salt per gallon, even my pictus cats and botias have pulled through completely and are doing great now.

HOWEVER, i have a NEW problem now. :(

the day before i started bringing the temp/salinity back down slowly, i noticed my larger of two bala sharks swiming tilted and even up side down at times... the next day, it was pretty much just drifting aimlessly. today, the third day of noticing this activity, it is still alive, still eating well, but seems to have no balance or controll of itself for the most part. so i seperated him from general population and tonight i notice my smaller bala doing the same....

is there something infectious at work here? is it something i can cure? or maybe is it some sort of bad genetics? :(
they came from the same LFS but different times and im sure they were different batches.

im about a week away from upgrading from a 55 to a 130 gallon, but before i do, i really want to know whats wrong.... can anybody help? :(:(

my gouramis, tinfoil barbs and things of similar nature are showing no signs of it at this point and the smaller bala is just starting to show slight signs

okay, the smaller shark is alot worse today, more drifting than anything, should i put him in the Q tank with the other bala? both are however still alive and eating well. just not swiming so good.

please help :(

:/ wish i had an answer for you. I've never had that problems with my balas though.

I would get the salt out of the tank ASAP and bring the temp down back to normal, and then see how he is doing. If you think you did get it all out water changes can help make sure that it is all gone. How long did you have the salt and temp up? Maybe that had an effect on the balas.

the salt/temp treatment lasted for about a week and a half, give or take. i already have set things back to normal. theyve been back to normal for about 3 days now and the smaller didnt start acting up till yesterday.

Same thing happened to me. Actualy, I'm waiting to clear up my ich problem before moving them to a 125. First I noticed ich about 2 weeks ago. It was on one of my Balas and a few Tetras. I had two Balas at about 3 inches. I added salt (about 1 tblspn per 5 gallons) and raised the temp to 80 from 76. The next day, one Bala was drifting with the current and had no control over himself. All other fish were fine. This went on for about 2 days and then I took him out and killed him. Sorry, don't mean to offend anyone, but I couldn't stand to see him like that. After reading an article found on this site about ich, reading posts, and starting a thread and getting some good advice on eliminating ich, I raised the salt to 2 teaspoons per gallon over the next few days. I will be at 1 week next Thursday. All fish are currently doing fine including my other Bala. This probably isn't much help to you, but thought I'd share just the same. I was going to wait to see if the Bala pulled out of it, but my understanding is that once the swim bladder is damaged, that's it.
