Okay, I knew he was violent, but really...

Last night I brought home a trio of new Mollies and 5 Glow-Light Tetras from my LFS, an awesome place called Beverly's. After floating the bag for about 10 minutes I noticed my Betta paying special attention to the Tetra bag. After another five minutes, I let the Mollies loose, paying attention to the Tetras because I heard they can be harder to acclimate. Soon, they were loose, and my Betta wasted no time trying to EAT then. Honestly, he's a midget Betta! He's only about an inch without fins, which aren't too long! They're separated now, but do you guys think there is any hope for my tetras? My Betta liked that 20 gallon... but half a Tetra tail's missing!

If he was the only fish in there for while he is probably extra territorial about his domain.

You could try :

1. Re-arrange tank substantially. It might distract him as he goes exploring and let the new fish settle in during which time he may get more tolerant of them. He won't see them quite so much as newcomers to 'his' territory.

2. Put him back in, dividing the tank with a mesh which has space for the tetras to get through and not him so they can escape him. Again, he may get more tolerant over time.

3. Both of the above.

4. Rethink the tetras. Your betta may just have a surplus of 'personality' lol

oh, he does! lol

he's such an evil little *******. but when i went to the pet store wanting a betta, and they all looked so lethargic, and his little container was in the middle. he was flaring for all he was worth.

instant love. <3

Every betta is different. Some like company and others don not. I have a betta in my 16 gallon with some brilliant rasboras and a bristlenose pleco and everything is fine. I guess it just depends on the betta. It is possible that by rearranging the tank and possibly getting a new decoration or two, it will distract him enough that he will leave the other fish alone. Of course, you can totally discombogulate him completely and do a sizeable water change along with it. This may or may not work. Good luck with it.
