Well, I received an email back from the Eheim rep and he said that your filter was discontinued over 25 years ago & there are no longer any replacement parts available for the Typ 383 model that you have.
I would really like to acquire the filter, if only for its nostalgic value, but I think the shipping would be cost prohibitive. If you were really interested in trying to get it to work, go for it. Or see if anyone is interested in it as a collectible.
There may be some issues with why it's not working besides the aging of the unit. Without seeing it set up on the tank & what kind of media you have in it, etc., it's difficult to tell if there are any cheap fixes that may allow you to actually use it. If it were mine, I would definitely 'play' with it because I think it would be cool to have a filter that is this age that still works.
