Old Reef Rock Ok for Malawi Setup??

I have 20 pounds of Florida Reef Rock (limestone based). Can I / Should I use this in my Malawi setup??

The limestone would help buffer the ph, but it has mostly sharp jagged edges - definitely not smooth.

If not using it for display rock, would there be advantages for crushing it and using smaller chips as filter media??

Sure, why not? Don't worry about the jagged edges, African's are pretty nimble. If it's nice looking rock, it would be a shame to crush it all up...

Should be fine. Just make sure anything that can die is dead, such as sponges or mushroom corals.
