OMG!!! My Plecos eyes are gone!!! AHHHH!!!

How's little Daredevil doing? Hope he's coming along swimmingly.:)

Give us an update, please, when you can. You're so great with the videos, we'd love to see another one of him as he recovers.

I was thinking; you know how those little guys like to feel hidden sometimes, and I'm sure especially since he was brutalized by another fish he might feel the need for a hiding place.

I saw this clear tube that goes in a tank that allows a fish to feel hidden. I think I read on the specifics of this item that it was designed for fish that like to hide, but whose vision is so poor they can't see that the thing is translucent, so the fishkeeper can see him, but he doesn't know he's visible to others.

It's the closeness of the sides of the tube that make him feel hidden and protected. He might really feel better and less stressed with a nice hiding place like that, yet you could still keep your eye on him.

I'm going to go look for that item. I know I saw it on a site that sold fish and aquarium stuff. When I find it I'll post the link.:)

OK, while searching, (haven't found the site that sells the clear tube, yet), I found that one person uses one of those clear glass candle tubes, or you could use the glass chimney of one of those oil lamps, if you had the right size; small enough for him to feel enclosed, I think.

Going to search some more, back later.

On one site someone suggested an "undergravel filter lift tube" for shrimp to hide in. I don't know if the diameter would be right, since I don't know what that looks like but it sounds good.:)

Thanks Melody! :) That sounds like a PERFECT plan! SO COOL! I think I have something i can put in there... but I dont know about glass-on-glass... hmm...

Well, Here's an update, Daredevil has been doing pretty well lately, although I still do not feel like we're over the hump- He's showing really positive signs!

He's been sucking on the walls of the tank which make me feel like he has his strenght up, and he regularly eats 1 algea waffer a day, so thats great! We gave him some peas a couple days ago that he nibbled on a little. He's been swimming around quite a bit, still looks pine-coned, but I think it's gone down drastically. His wounds look good, their white and healing, not very red, and his fins (where torn) have the white outline of new growth!!! So he's healthy enough to heal!

What concerns me is his waste. Usually its the color of the algea waffers but sometimes long and white and thin. Very odd. I think I may have to vary his diet, so I may go get some zucchini tonight and see how that does for him...

I'm doing about 50% waterchanges, he dirtys it up pretty quick! And he likes to break the algea waffers into chunks so some of it disolves and murks up the water hahaha. So we occationally do 2 waterchanges. (Couldnt imagine food being good on wounds such as his so I'm a bit anal about WCs).

I'll take some videos when I catch him doing something cute like sucking along the wall or swimming around pointlessly. Last night he ate an algea waffer while standing on his tail!?!??!!? He's a strange one!!!

Thanks for your continued support! I hope he makes it- I think we're on the road to recovery but I'm still hesitent to get my hopes up- he looks so terrible... He has everything he needs though, lots of room, no bully tankmates, food, clean water... so I'm crossing my fingers that his will stays strong and no infection get in the way of his healing process.

White stringy poo can be a sign of trouble. I hope not.

What if you dose him daily with Melafix, since it is from the melalueca (spelling?) plant, also known as Tea Tree, and it is a gentle, soothing, mildly antibacterial botanical.

I have used it and I've read other more experienced members posts in which they state that clean water and Melafix is all they've ever used, even in treating infections.

Another opinion from an expert needed. Please comment, pros.:)

Oh, and I think you're right about glass on glass, unless you had substrate that stabilzed it and kept it from touching the glass. I think I remember you have him without substrate right now, which is good to help keep the tank clean.

At any rate, even a plastic or acrylic tube will need to be stabilzed in there so it doesn't roll around. That would make him feel even less secure.

I'm glad to here he's recovering. It could be trauma and the pineconing that is affecting his bowel, peas are a good idea. My guy loves zucchini (although don't let it freak you if the poo becomes the color of the zucchini - maybe you've seen that, but the first time I fed Toy some zucchini, the next day I freaked a little - LOL). Keep up the great work!

LOL! Well- I did research on the poo issue... aparantly it's unanimous that healthy plecos have long poo. haha. So thats a good sign I guess... Need to watch out for white though. That could point to issues. I'll keep a good close eye on him.

Just cleaned the tank, so I'll get a vid or pic in by tonight. May consider the melafix just to make sure.

Here are some pics! :) You can really see the new tissue growth!! After comparing these with the old photos I feel 100x more optomistic! :)
