OMG!!! My Plecos eyes are gone!!! AHHHH!!!

I started on first two pages and then the last two... I would still use the Pimafix to help the eyes heal. I've always had good luck with it. I've also known people to use both. I always try to go that route before using any antibiotic type medicines...

I've read several posts by other extremely experienced fishkeepers who say the same thing: Melafix and/or Pimafix and clean water are all they ever use. I imagine Pimafix is just as good as Melafix, though I don't have experience with it and don't know much about it.

Really great advice jrow.

I know they are both used for a variety of problems. I've always used the Pimafix for Fungus issues. Pull the carbon out and do a 50% water change, add Pimafix once a day for seven days, and then do another 50% water change before putting the carbon back in...

Glad I could help!!! :)

No place for salt what-so-ever in this context.

I never told her to put marine salt in the tank! lol

simple aquarium salt, or table salt is a great stress reliever, and also aids in preventing infection

lots of info here! thanks guys! :)

i've kept up with bigger waterchanges (75%). the redness is now pinkish. i have not added any sort of salt or medication to his tank this entire time yet.

i am running the tank like a pond filter (sort of) with just sponge and bio, this way if i need to medicate in a hurry i dont have to mess with any carbon. this is how i've always run hospital tanks.

i let him fast the entire day yesterday, perhaps he has been over eating, and he'll get some blanched spinach and broccoli stem (rubbed with garlic) tonight when I get home. it looks as though the tissue continues to heal, less and less pink/white is visible, its just irritated. I think it is from the algea waffers he tears up. he leaves little chuncks of algea wafer and then it gets into the water and floats around- it may be getting in his wounds. So I am going to avoid the messy foods today and give him veggies. (perhaps attempt some snail jello w/ vitamins)

i dont work tomorrow so i will be headed to the fish store for either primafix or melafix. i need to do some research and see which one is better for this senario.

thank you for all the advice and the HUGE wealth of information! ya'll have tought me a lot, i'll let you know how hes doing.

Sara, we are all just riveted to this thread. Daredevil is one fortunate little pleco, to be in your care. Keep up the wonderful job, O' Florence Nightingale of aquaria.:thm:

Btw... where are you from originally?
Being from Texas and all... myself...I think I hear a bit of a southern accent in there. (ya'll) :)

LOL! Well... I was born in Jersey (family is italian) then I moved to TX in elementry school- I was there for 15 years and then moved to Seattle 2 years ago. So I've lived on all three coasts! heehee. My boyfriend was born and raised in Austin, TX.

Texas will always be home to me. I miss good storms, hot days, and the sound of crickets at dusk. ;)
