the guy said that he spent over $18,000 on everything. that is ALOT OF MONEY. and for only 225 gallons. with 18 grand, i would build a freakin tank into the wall....

$18K on a reef tank is pretty much the 'norm.' Especially one that size.
I've heard of many folks spending upwards of $50K on their reefs.

Lots of expensive livestock, lots of expensive equipment. 18k may be a high end estimate, but I don't disbelieve it.

screw that! i would much much rather have a big arse tank in the wall, with 50k you could probably have multiple tanks in the 4000g range i bet. it would probably be cheaper to maintain too.

You'd be amazed at how much folks spend on their reefs over the span of several years or even decades. The live rock alone was probably $1-2K if he went with all premium.
