Omg Yay :d

This might sound stupid, but if everybody here is worried about the glass breaking on the bottom, and want to replace it cheap, why not put in a 3/4" piece of marine plywood, fiberglass it, and paint over it. You could reinforce the plywood to make it stonger and less brittle than the glass, plus, it would be cheaper than tempered glass.

After all, it is on the bottom(who's gonna see it?), and I've seen tanks well over 1,000 gal using plywood.....It'll hold.....

Its not 2800 pounds of water. More like 1700 or in that neighborhood. I showed it to the Home Depot(luckily it's right next to where I work) And they think if I used this liquid welding stuff they have, on the bottom, and silicone the top that it'd hold up fine. Whatever I do I'm prolly adding some extra wooden braces inside the stand underneath it.

Yep, I think you'll have no trouble - and even like jason says, you could use ply. With good support under the glass all you need to do is seal the water, which is easily done...

You have to include the weight of decor, rocks, driftwood etc. Substrate alone with weigh about 110 lbs. My 135 gallon SW weighs about 2800 lbs, and there isn't that much rock in there.
You also have to make sure the silicon is aquarium safe, the people at home depot don't know as much about building things as you may think they do. Know what you're doing when you go in there, just as you should when buying anything. This Liquid "welding" stuff doesn't sound like it's aquarium safe, I would really check into that.

Actually I'm thinking of going fiberglass/plywood after talking to some people today. That stuff is pretty tough :)
