omgomgomg...

clown loaches are fine. They will hide rather then attack. Just dont grab them, haha cause they have fangs that will pop out if they feel scared, Or when they yawn.

mmm i wouldn't get a clown loach. they need a very large tank when they are fully grown. your tank is only just big enough for one or two small juviniles. cloan loaches can get to crazy big size and need more room than a yoyo anyday. yoyo loaches need about 30 gallon min. there are loaches called zipper loaches and some dwarf loaches around. you could get a few kuhli loaches. they are cool but i'm not sure about their snail eating skills.
all i know is a clown loach gets faaaaaaaaaaar too big for your tank. you'd be stunting its growth and shortening its life span by keeping even one in there.

theres a few sites that will give you some loach info. make sure you get at least 3-4 of a single type of loach as they are shoaling fish and need company to play and dance like my cute little yoyos

good luck :D

Don't get a clown loach for a 20 gallon tank !!

They get too large for those. Get a few kuhlii loach....they should take care of the snail problem and they won't grow too big for your tank. They really aren't a 'schooling' fish per say....but they do feel safer in a group and you'll tend to see them a bit more often than if you have one single one in there.

As Emg pointed out, loaches are not schooling fish. They are grouping fish, minimum of 3 or more.

Is this guppy the only fish in the tank? If not, you really should invest in a QT tank. Even a 2.5gallon will do for guppies. You could have introduced something far worse than snails to that tank.

Instead of throwing more fish in the tank to get rid of the snails, why don't you address WHY the snails are multiplying so fast?

In order for them to multiply quickly, there has to be a very ready supply of food available. Snails are actually *good* to have in your tank and you can control them by not overfeeding your fish.

Read Daveedka's snail article:

I'd not put in any more fish. Try feeding a lot less than you are now.

Kuhli Loaches are a excellent option or you could get Dwarf loaches which one of my friends got when he had a problems with snails. They were working just as well as the Kuhli Loaches. By the way Kuhli loaches are more quiet than the Dwarf loach. Dwarf loaches are very active! One more thing...Kuhli loaches are SUPER fast and may be quite...no...VERY hard to catch!

If you do not have plants/inverts, there is a product called Had-a-Snail, i think its called. Snail poison basically. Google it. I've never used it personally, but it might work. Do some research on it. Take care.

The striped skunk loach is both very active and excellent at eating snails.

Only down side is that it can be aggressive. Don't put it with slow moving fish.

Good with danios, schoooling tetras, rainbows, barbs,

Or just get 2 and return them b4 the warentee ends and hope they cleaned up all the snails...witch they do pretty fast. =p

This is unethical. It's along the same lines as going to a store, buying a computer, going home & typing up your term paper, then returning the computer. It's also about like the people who buy a dress for a fancy party, wear it to the event, then return it the day after.

Actually, it's worse, because it puts unnecessary stress on a living animal that has extra adjustments to make, first to your water, then back to the store again. The added stress could cost the fish its life.

I ve had a couple pf Khuli Loaches before but I did no thave the snail problem so I dont know how they do with the snails. I like the little snails I would keep them. To cut down on them I would try to feed the fish less food and see if that works. Do the lettuce trick and that should help you get some of them out. I know that everybody else has already said all this, but I think it is the best idea so far. I wouldnt add anymore fish.

Snails will not overpopulate in tanks that are properly maintained. Period. Clean the tank more, don't look for an easy out, and the snails won't be a problem.
