has any one had this happen before? I was doing some stuff near the tank, my hand was just above the water, and one of my bettas (Franklen) jumped out of the water and attacked my hand. I am just wondering 1) why would he 2) is this normal? All I can say is the little guy has a lot of guts, I am what 50 to 100 times larger then he is.

call animal control. they will come to your house and quarantine the fish. Its not good to have aggressive pets :troll:

i wouldnt think its cause for concern.

when my hand is in the tank, my betta always swims up really fast to look at whats going on. if he starts to flare while my hand is in there i just point my finger at him and he knocks it off right away :p

your betta probably just has an agressive temperment, would be my opinion. either that or he felt threatened. who knows maybe he's playful.

When i had 2 bettas in small tanks about 3 inches apart, with a black screen between them so they could not see each other, one leapt into the others tank and the had a little brawl before i could net and seperate them.
So, they will leap when angry.

By the way, you have to teach him whos in charge. I hope you flared at him and flapped your arms furiously.

Hehe he's being silly. I love that about them.
I once had a female that would let me 'pet' her ... Id stick my hand in and she would swim all around it, touching me.. I thought it was cute.

Sometimes when I feed my Betta at my office live blackworms, I put a worm on the end of my finger and hold it up about an inch above the water. He will circle around for a bit checking it out and then jumps up and snags it....my co-workers love to see him do it.
