i have a piece of LR encrusted with brain coral, and i noticed today in one of the corals "pits" what looked like a mushroom polyp, so i tried pry it out of the hole only to find that it disappeared into the ridges of pit. i was thinking could this be an actual brain coral polyp, even tho there is only one and it hasn't been under strong lighting. idk what kind of coral it is but ill post a pic when the polyp is visible. either way around i decided i wanted it in my reef tank so i cracked off a section of the rock with the polyp and transfered it over

pics, but im like 95% sure its part of the coral, its just a perfect match. can it live under biocube lighting, and how do other polyps grow?

Sorry, but I don't think that is going to last that long. How long has it been like that in your tank? Not sure, but it looks like it has brown slime disease or whatever it is called. When the lights go out, does it inflate or send out feeders? If not, I don't think it is long for this world... but I could be wrong.

Some sort of faviid coral and it is part of the skeleton. My suggestion is to place it higher and attempt to feed it at night if the feeding tentacles are extended. It has the potential to recover fully and even grow.
well its been looking pretty good, and its been under 15 watts for more than a month, the rock was even buried under other rocks. the better lighting cant hurt it anymore id imagine, but ill see what happens tho
I meant, how long has it been one polyp on a skeleton. The reason that I ask is that the polyp looks like it has that brown slime disease (just because of the color in the picture). Was it really kept under 15 watts? Can't show you are comparison as there isn't enough of the coral to look at. But like Amp said, it looks like a favia type skeleton
I would think that the second pic is closer to what yours would have looked like in its prime (not necessarily color, but structure).

iv never seen another polyp on it, so i think hes been alone for a while. i didnt check him last night but ill be sure to tonight
iv been trying to feed it, i haven't seen tentacles but i put a piece of food on it and it disappears after a while. in the center I'm starting to see some green color but now it looks sort of shriveled up, like beef jerky compared to the raw pork texture in the pics. is the color a good sign or is the shrinking a sign its on its way out?
